Cassowary Festival
The Mission Beach Community Cassowary Festival is a celebration of nature, focusing on the cassowary and the community.
Cassowary Festival is held over 4 days, with the main event in 2018 was held in the Mission Beach park on Saturday 30 June and was held in conjunction with the Rotary Sunday village market.
A beach side marquee in the shape of a giant cassowary was put up and there was a stage that hosted guest speakers, live music, performances, competitions and more.
Held in the Mission Beach picturesque parks and gardens that overlook the Coral Sea, there was many food and information stalls, Childrens activities, entertainment and special guests.
A special street parade and “Flying Cassowary” need to be seen to believed!
The Mission Beach Community Cassowary Festival is based around the celebration of nature with a deep focus on the FNQ cassowary and the community.
Most Cassowary Festivals are combined with the Rotary Sunday village market and continue throughout the afternoon.
The market expanses to hold extra market stall spaces so don’t miss the goods or activities celebrating nature.
Being held at the beginning of the tourist season, the event is expected to attract a big audience and participation.
It will include celebrities and national media so it will be great for promoting your business too.
The Cassowary Festival gets people in the community involved from individuals and groups, young and old, making it more fun for locals and visitors!
Events include:
• Wildlife road signs made by local kids
• Write a cassowary poem or song
• Choreograph a dance or imitate an animal
• Enter a photographic or painting exhibition
• Decorate your shop front or theme your business
• Create land or sand art or sculptures
• Make cassowary food/cakes/chocolate/drinks
• Dress up in cassowary colours or costume and join a Grand Parade.
It’s a nature-themed festival that the whole family can participate in.
