Lion dance

Lion dancing is a traditional form of Chinese dance that has been popular in Cairns since the 1800s. It is performed by the Chinese community during the Chinese Luna New Year of the Rabbit.

The Lion dance can also be performed during other Chinese traditional festivals too.

The lion dance is performed by two people, one wearing a lion head and the other wearing a lion tail. The two dancers move in unison to the beat of drums and cymbals, and the lion head is often accompanied by a flag or ribbon.

The Lion Dance is meant to bring good luck and fortune to the watching audience.
